Taxes in the MEPCO bill

Following taxes are applied in the MEPCO bill online.

FPA (Fuel Price Adjustment):

Every month, MEPCO adds fuel charges for those companies which produce electricity from crude oil. FPA prices change every month and it mostly depends upon the current price of oil in the city.

  • If fuel cost becomes more than reference cost, then FPA increases.
  • If fuel prices become less than reference cost, then FPA decreases.

TR (Tariff Rationalization) Surcharge:

These are additional charges in an electricity bill. These charges are used to adjust the price of electricity, if changes occur in fuel prices, reduce government subsidies, and ensure the financial stability of electricity provider companies.

It is a tariff difference between two authorities which are NEPRA and GOP.

FC (Financing Cost):

These are the charges that apply on the consumers to cover the expenses which are related to that money borrowed  for new projects and infrastructure of development. The FC price is 0.43 Rs. per kWh or 43 paisa per unit.

These amounts are added by power distribution companies to finance the construction, maintenance and upgrade of the power distribution authorities.

QTA (Quarterly Tariff Adjustment):

It is included in the electricity bill for the adjustment of fuel prices. QTR is revised after 3 months, not every month.

GST (General Sales Tax):

It is 17% of your total electricity bill. If your total bill is 1,000, then GST will be 170.

Deferred Amount:

If a dispute occurs between the department and the consumer, it will pay a deferred amount in any court case. It can be paid in the same month or in installments for consumer convenience.
